    I know im very late, but this video was really fun and helpful in learning about the foreign service! I am 16 and have basically set my mind on this being what i want to do, politics, U.S. history, policies, etc... have been my strong suit through hs and especially college now (graduated hs early), and I love travel and adventure. Thanks for some additional insight on the job! ❤

    • @TheJazzyNation1

      Because we were living and working in Morocco rather than the U.S., and without plans to move there permanently or immigrate, we never planned to stay longer than our work contract allowed.

    I haven't been yet, but as far the altitude adjustment, many people move to Ecuador to be near the ocean near 0 above sea level. It's only in places like Cuenca and Quito and other mountain paradises where you'll deal with the high altitudes. We're going more for the opportunity to sit out on a deck drinking our coffee while watching whales put on a show offshore. Might seem crazy, Something just sounds serene about that.

    I couldn't keep track of the numbers you cited, it looks like you live in a very high life style. I wonder what the monthly cost would be for one person to live as you do? Of course, my lifestyle by choice is less expensive here in the US. and would be I imagine even less in Ecuador. As far as the investments go, I know one can get very high returns on CDs in Ecuador, but can you take the money out of Ecuador? Thanks for any advise.

    Love your content. I am in love with an Ecuadorian and we are trying anything to be together. I'm not sure how to even start the process of getting my visa, and would love any feedback from you or anyone in the comments about the best visa to get to live for at least a year if not 2. I'm a yoga teacher and teach both online and in person here in the U.S. so I feel I could do a lot online from there. Any advice is greatly appreciated.

    I gave serious consideration to Ecuador but the fact that their currency is USD and some violence during the time I was thinking about going caused me to change my mind. I am currently in Morocco after leaving Colombia and Chile. I will likely remain in Morocco permanently, as my base, (fiance is a citizen) now that I will soon be married. Thanks for sharing!! You , spend that much because you must eat specialty groceries, if you go to the mercado you will find affordable vegetable and fruits and grains and all that,you are not spending on rent , so you are spending on food that you want to eat which it will be specialty, cost of living in Ecuador is low compared to the states yes , i believe that if you go more local you will see the difference

    • @TheJazzyNation1
      @TheJazzyNation1 Місяць тому

      I call myself an expat because I was living in a different country for a short period for professional reasons. I do not intend to stay long-term abroad or denounce my US citizenship. If one day we decide to move to a country for longer than a work contract allows, then we will consider ourselves immigrants rather than ex-pats. I hope that helps.

    The biggest problem is the culture shock, even Spanish speakers from other Hispanic American countries struggle getting used to the level of hardheadedness here. People could be walking towards a cliff and they'll just tell you "that's how we do things here, you go do your own thing in your country" while they walk to their death. Of course, you'll have a bit of a different experience with shallow relations with people who provide services for you because, let's face it, they earn their bread with you. Everything else, in my view is normal and a "pro". It's the culture here that is so problematic.
